Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa arrived in New York on Sept. 21, 2026, for the 81st session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA). In the days surrounding the assembly’s opening, he held a series of bilateral meetings highlighting Damascus’ accelerating diplomatic reengagement with Washington and its outreach to the Syrian diaspora.
