Why Nawafith Exists لماذا نوافذ

The Syrian information space is completely fragmented. Every faction runs its own narrative. Agencies file what fits their agendas. Each source hands you a slice of the truth and calls it the whole picture. Nobody was putting all these voices next to each other.

So we built an ecosystem. Nawafith is a transparent, Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) platform. We monitor 280+ sources and map the entire Syrian landscape. Fragmented reporting becomes structured insight, so researchers, NGOs, and the public can compare narratives, track reconstruction, and act on evidence.

A Syrian Visual Identity

هوية بصرية سورية

Every element in Nawafith's design is inspired by Syrian architectural heritage, from the stones of Damascus to the arches of the Umayyad Mosque and the mashrabiya screens of historic houses.

Mashrabiya

Geometric lattice patterns from Damascene wooden window screens, forming the background texture with subtle transparency.

Rub el Hizb
ربع الحزب

The eight-pointed star, an ancient Islamic geometric symbol used as a navigational and decorative element.

Ablaq
الأبلق

Alternating light and dark stonework from traditional Damascene architecture, appearing in table rows.

Pointed Arch
القوس المدبّب

The Umayyad arch frames content areas, every card is a "window" into Syria.

Nawafith isn't a newsroom. It's one analyst armed with the AI infrastructure of an entire intelligence agency. Karam sets the questions, curates the sources, and owns every call. The platform handles the rest: monitoring, translation, classification, visualization, at a scale no solo analyst could reach alone. Human judgment. Machine scale.

Security audited by Nour Alsheikh — OWASP two-phase penetration test. All critical and high-severity findings remediated.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Nawafith?
Nawafith (نوافذ, "Windows") is the open-source intelligence (OSINT) infrastructure for a rebuilding Syria. We aggregate information from 280+ Syrian and international sources to turn fragmented reporting into structured, searchable insight.
How many sources does Nawafith monitor?
We monitor exactly 280+ sources. This includes RSS feeds, Twitter/X accounts, Facebook pages, Telegram channels, Reddit communities, and meta-search engines. Every source is transparently classified by faction (governmental, neutral, Kurdish, international, regional, NGO), reliability tier, and language.
Is Nawafith free?
Yes. Public access to Nawafith's feed, knowledge graph, and reports is completely free. We believe reliable data on Syria should be accessible to anyone. Our reports are licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.
Which governorates does Nawafith cover?
All 14 Syrian governorates: Damascus, Rif Dimashq, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Latakia, Tartus, Idlib, Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Al-Hasakah, Daraa, As-Suwayda, and Quneitra.
How does the technology work?
We use AI models to scale human analysis. The models automatically extract entities (people, places, organizations) from articles, track narrative trends across factions, and detect relationships between events. This powers our Knowledge Graph, which currently maps over 11,000+ entities.
Why does an OSINT platform have a jobs board?
Our jobs engine isn't just a listing board; it is a tool for economic and operational intelligence. By aggregating opportunities from over 120 organizations working in Syria, it allows researchers and NGOs to map exactly where reconstruction, aid, and development money is flowing.
Who is behind Nawafith?
Nawafith is an independent, non-partisan project founded by Karam Alhamad, a graduate of the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs. The platform has no political affiliation, no government backing, and no conditional funding.
